Residential solar

Solar designed for your roof and your power use.

We assess your home, estimate costs and production, then design, permit and install the system with our own crew.

Suitability

Is your home suitable for solar?

It depends on four things. We look at each one in your free assessment, then confirm them at a site visit.

  • Roof direction and pitch

They affect how much sun the panels receive. We size the system to the roof you have.

  • Shading

Trees and nearby buildings change production through the day and year, so we account for them.

  • Roof condition

If the roof needs work first, we tell you before installation and coordinate the timing with a partner roofer.

  • Your electricity use

Your bills show how much power the system should aim to supply.

Winter is built into the estimate

Your production estimate accounts for Nova Scotia's snow, cloud cover and shorter winter days. Please don't climb up to clear snow from the panels; it's unsafe and unnecessary.

Costs and production

What it costs and what it produces

Cost depends on your roof, electricity use, equipment and any electrical upgrades. Your assessment includes a proposed system size, estimated production and an estimate of savings, so you can compare your options.

If you're considering financing, compare the payment with the utility costs you'd still have. Programs and incentives change, so we confirm current eligibility for your home individually.

Process

How the installation works

Installation itself usually takes a few days on site. The overall timeline depends on permits, utility approvals and scheduling, so we give you a schedule for your project.

What's included

What we take care of

You make the decisions about the system and give us access to your home. We coordinate the design, permits, inspections and utility connection.

  • System design & engineering

Your system is designed around your roof's orientation and shading. We run production estimates that account for Nova Scotia's full year, including snow, and back the design with engineering documents.

  • Equipment & products

We choose equipment for its warranty, reliability, cold-climate performance and cost over its life, and explain the options in your proposal.

  • Roof assessment & compatibility

We inspect your roof during the site visit. We install on most common roof types, including asphalt shingle and metal, with mounting suited to each surface. If your roof needs work first, we'll tell you upfront; a partner roofing company does that work and we coordinate the timing.

  • Electrical work & upgrades

We handle all electrical work in-house, led by James, a Red Seal electrician. If your home's electrical panel needs an upgrade, a service change, or additional capacity to support your solar system, we take care of it as part of the project.

  • Permitting & inspections

You don't have to deal with the municipality or coordinate inspector schedules. We handle all the permitting. Every installation goes through two inspections: a rough-in inspection before the panels are installed, and a final inspection once the system is complete.

  • Monitoring & post-installation support

Once your system is energized, you receive monitoring access so you can track your solar production. Our local team is available for service after installation.

Outages and add-ons

What happens in a power outage?

A grid-tied solar system shuts down during an outage so line crews can work safely. For backup power, a generator connection is a separate solution. These can be added with your solar system or later.

  • EV charger installation

We install Emporia EV chargers and the circuit they need. If you're on a time-of-day rate, charging can be scheduled for lower-cost hours; we can help you understand the options with your utility.

  • Energy monitoring

We install Emporia energy monitors that give you full visibility into your home's energy consumption alongside your solar production.

  • Generator backup for your home

We install generator panels and connections — including meter connections and remote generator outlets — so a suitable portable or stationary generator can provide backup power during outages. We'll assess your home's electrical system and explain the connection you need.

What solar customers say

Both Keith and James took the time to thoroughly and patiently explain every question we put to them. … Everything was done promptly and we didn't have to wait forever for each process to be completed.

  • I was a bit apprehensive as I had a less than great experience with a different solar company. … Everything was fully explained and all of my questions were answered.

  • We had a ~12KW system installed on our house roof and garage roof. James and his crew are delightful people and worked with us to meet our needs. They did high quality work, on schedule, and cleaned up after themselves.

Questions

More questions

What if my roof needs to be replaced first?

We inspect your roof during the site visit. Our team works on roofs every day, and we know what to look for. If your roof needs work before we can install panels, we work with a partnered roofing company to get it taken care of. We'll tell you straight.

Can you install on a metal roof?

Yes. We install on metal roofs as well as asphalt shingle, with mounting suited to standing seam, corrugated metal and flat roofs. We confirm suitability at the site visit.

Are there any rebates or government incentives?

Programs and eligibility can change. During your consultation, we'll review the current options for your solar project and confirm any requirements before you make a decision.

What warranty do you offer?

The products we install carry manufacturer warranties, and we stand behind our workmanship. We'll confirm the warranty terms for your system in writing before you decide.

How long does the installation take?

The installation itself usually takes a few days on site. The overall timeline depends on permits, utility approvals and scheduling, so we give you a schedule for your project and keep you updated.

Do you subcontract any of the work?

Our own crews do the solar and electrical work. If your roof needs repairs before installation, we coordinate with a partner roofing company.

Can I add an EV charger or generator connection later?

Yes. We install EV chargers, energy monitors, and generator connections. These can be added during your initial installation or as a separate project later. We'll assess any upgrades your electrical system may need.

What happens if I sell my house?

Your installed solar system stays with the property. If you are considering a sale while financing remains outstanding, check the terms with your lender and discuss the system with your real estate professional.
